Main uses

Flexible polyurethane foam
The dominant use of TDI is flexible slabstock and molded foams for furniture, mattresses, automotive seating and packaging cushioning.
Coatings and elastomers
Used in high-performance PU coatings, sealants, synthetic leather and elastomers for durability and chemical resistance.
Adhesives
Reactive TDI-based prepolymers serve demanding adhesive and bonding applications in construction and industry.

Production methods

TDI is produced by phosgenation of toluene diamine (TDA), obtained by nitration of toluene followed by hydrogenation. The 2,4- and 2,6-isomers are separated and blended to grade ratios.
