Natural Rubber (NR)

Natural Rubber (NR) is among the products supplied by Shanghai Haihai Zhonglong Technology Co., Ltd. Harvested from rubber tree latex, its main component is polyisoprene. With good elasticity, high strength and excellent processability, NR is widely used in tires, hoses, belts, anti-vibration parts and general rubber goods.

Physical Properties

Natural rubber (NR), whose main component is cis-1,4-polyisoprene, offers comprehensive mechanical properties that are hard to match with synthetic rubber.

Extremely high elasticity
NR shows excellent elasticity and high rebound at room temperature, with low dynamic heat build-up and outstanding damping.
High strength and tear resistance
It has excellent tensile strength, tear strength and puncture resistance, with strong load-bearing capacity.
Excellent processability
Easy to plasticate and mix, with good tack, easy to bond with reinforcements (cord, steel wire).
Fatigue and shock resistance
Low hysteresis loss and low heat build-up, suitable for dynamic damping and repeated deformation parts.
Poor oil and weather resistance
Not oil-resistant and prone to aging; often modified or blended with synthetic rubber to improve performance.

Main Applications

Natural rubber is the preferred raw material for tires and many general rubber products:

Tires
NR is the main compound for passenger and truck tire tread and sidewall, providing high elasticity, low heat build-up and excellent wet grip.
Rubber Products (hose/seals/dampers)
Widely used in hoses, seals, shock absorbers and conveyor belts requiring high strength and elasticity.
Footwear (sole/insole)
NR soles are elastic and comfortable, an important material for high-end leather and athletic shoes.
Adhesives and Tapes
With strong tack, NR is used for high-performance adhesives, medical tapes and pressure-sensitive products.

Processing & Application

(1) Plasticating and mixing: NR must be plasticated first to lower Mooney viscosity, then mixed with vulcanizing agents, accelerators, antioxidants, carbon black etc.; control temperature to prevent scorching.

(2) Forming: Formed by calendering, extrusion or molding; with good tack, suitable for tire tread, hoses and laminated products.

(3) Vulcanization: Cross-linked under proper temperature and pressure to give high strength and elasticity; conditions depend on product thickness and formulation.

(4) Inspection and packaging: After vulcanization, inspect physical properties and appearance, then package and store in a cool dry place, avoiding light and ozone.

Precautions

(1) Safety warning: NR itself is low-toxicity, but fumes and dust from mixing and vulcanization should be exhausted; some additives (accelerators, antioxidants) may cause skin allergy and require protection.

(2) Storage: Raw and finished rubber should be stored in a cool, dry, ventilated warehouse, avoiding direct sunlight, heat sources and ozone sources (e.g. motors); keep away from oils and solvents.

(3) Fire fighting: Rubber and products are combustible; use dry powder, foam or carbon dioxide; vulcanization workshops need explosion-proof and anti-static measures.

(4) Personal protection: Operators should wear dust masks, gloves and goggles, keeping the workplace clean and well ventilated.
